रानी लक्ष्मीबाई का असली नाम मणिकर्णिका था। वे एक मराठा कुल की बेटी थीं, बचपन से ही तलवारबाजी तथा युद्ध में कुशल मणिकर्णिका शादी के बाद लक्ष्मीबाई बन चुकी थी। सन् १८५७ में रानी लक्ष्मीबाई ने अंग्रेजों के विरुद्ध सर्वप्रथम क्रांति को अंजाम दिया।
कित्तूर की रानी चेन्नम्मा भी इन्हीं की तरह एक धैर्यशाली वीरांगना थी जिन्होंने कर्नाटक में अंग्रेजो का जम कर विद्रोह किया। रानी चेन्नम्मा ने ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के खिलाफ एक बगावत शुरू की थी।
सरोजिनी नायडू यह नाम भी आपने शायद कहीं सुना होगा। सरोजिनी को बड़ी छोटी सी उम्र में ही भाषा का अच्छा ज्ञान हो गया था। सरोजिनी नायडू ने भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन तथा अन्य सत्याग्रहों का नेतृत्व किया था जिनके कारण उन्हें कई मर्तबा जेल भी जाना पड़ा था।
