which excerpt from the passage best supports that agatha valued the opinions of the gods and goddesses more than the opinions of any human?

A. After the procession, the chariot was broken into pieces and burned, symbolizing that Demetria was leaving her parents ‘home forever’

B. “She though for a moment about the two roads in front of her. And then, knowing that the gods might very well punish her for it, she made her decision.”

C.” But then she began to think about what it would mean to disobey her father, imagining how upset the gods would be with for not following her parents will”

D” she kept these dreams to herself, though, never telling a soul how she felt, because it wasn’t proper.”

Answers

Answer 1

According to the fragment, it can be inferred that the sentence that best expresses the idea that Agatha valued the opinion of the gods more is: “She though for a moment about the two roads...” (option B).

Which passage best expresses the idea that Agatha values the opinion of the gods more?

According to the text "A Grecian Weeding" it can be inferred that Agatha valued the opinion of any God more than the opinion of humans because she in a part of the text must make a decision and is influenced by what she think it would be right for the Gods. The fragment in which she sees herself in that dilemma is:

“She though for a moment about the two roads in front of her. And then, knowing that the gods might very well punish her for it, she made her decision.”

On the other hand, nowhere in the text is it stated that she makes a decision influenced by the opinion of another human character. So, it can be inferred that she prefers the opinion of the Gods.

The banker stands as an authoritarian, materially-obsessed businessman who manipulates his influence and wealth to control others.

What is the theme of "The bet"?

"The Bet" exists an 1889 short story by Anton Chekhov about a banker and a young lawyer who make a bet with each other following a conversation about whether the death penalty exists better or worse than life in prison. Through different symbolism and pernicious competition against one's self, “The Bet” by Anton Chekhov illustrates how manipulative greed can be a crippling trait towards premature young adults, sparking irrational actions.

The banker stands as an authoritarian, materially-obsessed businessman who manipulates his influence and wealth to control others. His egotism, connected with his belief that life imprisonment is inferior to capital punishment, moves the plot of the short story forward.A complex character, the banker exposes both undesirable truths and redeemable facts about the human condition.

The banker is a flat character because throughout his flashback he existed as a constantly selfish man, but as he was summarizing what happened, he learned how immature and extreme the bet existed. The narrator realized that money isn't everything on the globe, and greed can disintegrate anyone.

The banker stands as a man that doesn't have high moral benchmarks. Money stands for everything to him, and that is why he stands willing to kill the lawyer to keep his fortune. He exists still a lover of the world and its pleasures. The lawyer, on the other hand, starts the story as a man that appears to treasure money.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True

A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High

[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.

[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."

[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.

[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).

[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.

[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.

How does the speaker's rhetorical question in paragraph 2 support the purpose of the speech?

It emphasizes the need for willing and wealthy volunteers to bring help to those less fortunate.
It highlights how unfair life can be for certain groups of people throughout the world.
It reinforces the idea that voluntourism can harm the people and communities it is meant to help.
It reminds the audience that there are some who fight the injustice associated with voluntourism.

Answers

The inference is that the speaker's rhetorical question in paragraph 2 supports the purpose of the speech as C. It reinforces the idea that voluntourism can harm the people and communities it is meant to help.

What is an inference?

It should be noted that the inference simply means the conclusion that can be deduced based on the information that is given by the author in a story.

In the story, most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time.

It was important to reinforce the idea that voluntourism can harm the people and communities it is meant to help. This illustrated the use of the rhetorical questions.

Answers

The point from the speech that most validly supports Warren's argument that wage discrimination against women currently exist is that America's women are tired of hearing that pay inequality isn't real."

What is wage discrimination?

It should be noted that wage discrimination simply means paying someone less because of their race to gender. Wage discrimination means paying someone less. Paying an employee less because of a protected characteristic violates the law. For example, paying women less than men for the same work qualifies as wage discrimination.

However, men can also be victims of wage discrimination if they receive lower pay because of their race, age, disability status, or another protected class.

In this case, it was stated that women were paid lesser than men even though they were doing exactly the same work.

Therefore, America's women are tired of hearing that pay inequality isn't real." This was important to support the stance of the author regarding the bias regarding payment.

Complete question:

Read the passage. excerpt from "Why Equal Pay Is Worth Fighting For" by Senator Elizabeth Warren, April 17, 2014

I honestly can't believe that we're still arguing over equal pay in 2014.

When I started teaching elementary school after college, the public school district didn't hide the fact that it had two pay scales: one for men and one for women. Women have made incredible strides since then. But 40 years later, we're still debating equal pay for equal work.

Women today still earn only 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, and they're taking a hit in nearly every occupation. Bloomberg analyzed Census data and found that median earnings for women were lower than those for men in 264 of 265 major occupation categories. In 99.6 percent of occupations, men get paid more than women. That's not an accident; that's discrimination.

The effects of this discrimination are real, and they are long lasting. Today, more young women go to college than men, but unequal pay makes it harder for them to pay back student loans. Pay inequality also means a tougher retirement for women. . . .

For middle-class families today, it usually takes two incomes to get by, and many families depend as much on Mom's salary as they do on Dad's, if not more. Women are the main breadwinners, or joint breadwinners, in two-thirds of the families across the country, and pay discrimination makes it that much harder for these families to stay afloat.

Women are ready to fight back against pay discrimination, but it's not easy. Today, a woman can get fired for asking the guy across the hall how much money he makes. Here in the Senate, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act to give women the tools to combat wage discrimination. It would help ensure that salary differences have something to do with the actual job that they are doing, and not just because they are women.

This is a common-sense proposal—no discrimination, no retaliation when women ask how much the guys are getting paid, and basic data that tell us how much men and women are getting paid for key jobs. Basic protection, basic information—that's essentially all this bill does. Employers can still pay different workers different salaries based on factors like skill, performance, expertise, seniority, and so forth—the Paycheck Fairness Act doesn't touch any of that.

Even while women still earn less than men in 99.6 percent of occupations, Senate Republicans won't even let the Senate vote on a bill to help make the workplace a little fairer for women. They just filibustered the Paycheck Fairness Act for a third time, telling women that we don't need paycheck fairness.

This should be a no-brainer. America's women are tired of hearing that pay inequality isn't real. We're tired of hearing that it is somehow our fault, and we're ready to fight back. We are not going to give up on passing the Paycheck Fairness Act to level the playing field for hardworking women in the workplace.

Senator Warren states that women are "ready to fight back" against unequal pay.

Which point from the speech most validly supports Warren's argument that wage discrimination against women currently exists?

The grammatical errors are as follows Change "an" to "a" before "new venture" in the second paragraph. Remove the second "a" before "reality" in the second paragraph. Add an apostrophe after "Bartovia" to show possession in the first paragraph. Capitalize the word "European" in the first paragraph as it is referring to a specific region.

It would be hard to find a European city that has a worse reputation than Bartovia's, with crime, rubbish, graffiti, and dereliction featured in every description over the last 60 years.

One of the few, however, is a new venture run by Sergio Leone, a nano-chemist who has returned to the city of his birth to try and make an impossible reality.

Therefore, Grammar mistakes or errors are mistakes or inaccuracies that contradict the norms and conventions of grammar in the syntax, structure, or usage of the language.
