Answers

Answer:

D) The majority's interests should be offset with measures that protect regional minority interests.

Explanation:

John C. Calhoun proposed the concurrent majority in the 19th century to defend slavery. Protecting regional minority interests should offset dominant interests. This would ensure that the minority's concerns are considered and that there is a power balance. Calhoun warned that if southern interests weren't preserved, northern states could outvote them on any subject. This would render the South impotent and end slavery. The concurrent majority helped sustain slavery despite mounting resistance. Slavery was abolished in the U.S.

OPEC is a collection of which type of countries?
A. Oil exporting
B. Underdeveloped
C. Muslim majority
D. Communist

Answers

OPEC is a collection of oil-exporting types of countries.

The majority of developing nations that export oil rely primarily or largely on petroleum resources for their economy. These are quickly running out. Their reserve to production ratios is often not much higher than the ideal minimum. Therefore, their governments have a strong incentive to slow down the depletion of these resources, while, of course, avoiding a reduction in oil output under normal conditions or affecting the economy of the oil-importing nations.

Reduced consumer demand for items made in oil-importing countries results in a rise in global savings, which pushes interest rates lower.

Civics Lesson 5: Extension Activity
Essential Question: Should the Electoral College Be Abolished?
The 2000 election and its aftermath prompted renewed debate over our
system for electing the President and Vice President
By Kay Maxwell, Robert Hardaway
YES
When the Constitution was written, the typical voter had few opportunities to learn about presidential candidates, so
the job of choosing the President was given to the Electoral College: Electors, who were appointed by their states.
were better educated than average citizens, who were not thought capable of making an informed choice.
Today, with universal education, TV, radio, newspapers, and the Internet, voters can learn about candidates for
themselves. And they should be trusted to choose their President.
The Electoral College is unfair in several ways. First, it gives more weight to votes cast in small states. (Each state's
electoral votes are equal to the number of members it has in the House and Senate combined.) Second, because the
Electoral College is "winner take all" in all but two states (Maine and Nebraska), people who disagree with the
majority in their state are not represented. Finally, the system allows the election of a President who does not have
the support of a majority of voters.
Without the Electoral College, candidates would campaign to get as many individual votes as possible in every state,
instead of focusing on states that provide key electoral votes. Each vote would make a difference and voters would
diel they truly had a stake in the elections, which could lead to increasted voting across the country. With a system of
direct election, all votes would be equally important and equally sought after. We need to abolish the Electoral
College and make our presidential elections one person, one vote.

These are the answers to the question

What the author is claiming in this passage is that the use of the electoral college as the way of picking the president is outdated, unfair as well as disadvantageous to the people of the United States. The evidence that the author used to back up the claim has to do with the use of these two states Nebraska and Maine. These are states that are small but may favor the president who may be elected even tough he is not the choice of the people. The reason I used this evidence to support my claim is that the states mentioned may not even produce the same number of votes like other states if the president was to be picked by the citizens solely. But despite their sizes, they still have the ability to make same picks as the large states.

What is the electoral colleges?

This is the way that the president of the United States has to be chosen. This is different from the methods where the citizens are solely responsible for choosing the president.

Many people have looked up into the night sky on a starry night and spotted shooting stars. They may ask themselves, what are the different items that soar through our night sky? It's easy to confuse asteroids, comets, and meteors as they share many similarities, but they are actually quite different. Asteroids and meteors take a more circular orbit around the sun. In contrast, a comet's orbit is usually more of an oval pattern. Meteors are what we typically call shooting stars. They are much smaller than asteroids and comets. Meteors are less than ten meters across. Asteroids and comets, on the other hand, can be several kilometers across. Some are even hundreds of kilometers across! Because meteors are so small, they often get pulled into planetary orbits, while asteroids and comets are large enough that they stay within the gravitational pull of the sun. Meteors are small enough that if they begin to hurdle towards the earth, they either burn up in Earth's atmosphere, or hit the earth with very little impact. Several millions of meteors fall towards the earth every year. If an asteroid or comet hit the earth though, they would have a severe impact.Scientists believe an asteroid the size of San Francisco hit Earth 65 million years ago. It had a huge environmental impact on the earth and caused the extinction of many animals, including the dinosaurs. Asteroids and comets get named, while meteors are too small and plentiful to name. Asteroids are given a name by the person who discovers them. On the contrary, comets are named after the person who discovered them. For example, Guiseppe Piazzi discovered the first asteroid and named it Ceres. Edmund Halley discovered Halley's Comet.Asteroids and meteors are made of rock and metal. Comets are made of ice, hydrocarbons, and rocks. Comets have a volatile core, while meteors and asteroids do not. Comets can have their own atmospheres, where asteroids and meteors do not.
