Nowhere is the belief that academia is a marketplace for the exchange of insights, opinions, suggestions and ideas upheld more devoutly than at Canramos State University (CSU) in Luzon. There, freedom of expression is prized. CSU has a wide range of curricular offerings at both undergraduate and graduate levels. One of its departments is the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management (DHRM). The DHRM has more than 20 personnel (a combination of faculty and administrative staff), all of whom enjoy particularly good work relationships. They treat one another more like family than coworkers, playing around and calling each other by nicknames when no students are around. They're close: everybody knows everybody else's business and there's precious little formality. The DHRM is an exceptionally friendly place to work: everybody's approachable and easy to work with. They're one big, happy family— a family that's presided over by a mother figure, the department chairperson.
Some DHRM members think the team's cohesive relationship is the reason why conflict is virtually— if not completely— unknown in their department. This is in distinct contrast to some other CSU departments, where there are factions and divisions between faculty and administrative staff. In certain departments, conflicts are endless— and can be serious enough to result in legal proceedings. The DHRM has learned from the unpleasant experiences of those other departments. Indeed, the chairperson has often mentioned how proud she is of the smooth interpersonal relationships in her department, and how much she values them. The staff work at keeping things harmonious and are careful never to cause offence. So, teamwork is alive and well in the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Or is it?The very close ties of this most cohesive team have landed the whole department in some difficult situations. On one occasion, for example, the chairperson became embroiled in a conflict with somebody from another department. Things got distinctly personal and the entire DHRM summarily cut friendly ties with the other party. That acute case of all being for one and one being for all was typical— in the DHRM, the desire to keep team camaraderie intact can sometimes involve its members in things they'd secretly rather not be involved in.
Once, in a DHRM monthly meeting, some faculty members suggested changing the regular schedule and format of the upcoming annual team bonding day. This suggestion prompted a lively exchange of opinions and ideas, and it became clear that the majority were in favour of making some changes. However, the department chairperson wasn't in favour of this— not in the slightest. Even though she'd sought the majority view was, she still went with her own option of no changes whatsoever. The team was fine with this: then, as now, they always automatically trusted the chairperson's instincts. And why wouldn't they, given the received view that she's always right? Plus, if you did question her decision, you'd be branded as uncooperative, or even slightly rebellious. (But don't get the idea that the DHRM is a dictatorship: in cases where the chairperson's opinion matches that of the majority, the majority opinion prevails.) So nobody questions her authority, or indeed any aspect of the status quo, a key facet of which is that her point of view is— and ever shall be— all conquering. Here again, the DHRM is different from other departments, in whose faculty meetings some quite heated debates have been known to arise. In the DHRM, nobody raises objections or plays devil's advocate because they're afraid of being thought badly of by the rest of the 'family'. This fear of being disapproved of makes people keep quiet, even if they're privately sure that their own view is more valid than the majority's. The obstruction to any new ideas being voiced means that the DHRM makes the same old decisions over and over again.

The primacy of majority rule in the DHRM was exemplified when an applicant for a faculty position was not hired even though they were perfectly qualified to fill it: the majority didn't like the person, and that's the criterion for being appointed— being liked by the majority. The DHRM chooses the people they want to join 'the family', regardless of whether they're depriving the university and its students of highly competent faculty members.

water containing sewage and other wastes from homes and industries

Answers

Water containing sewage and other wastes from homes and industries is commonly referred to as wastewater. Wastewater is a term used to describe the used water that contains various types of pollutants and contaminants resulting from human activities.

Wastewater typically includes domestic sewage from households, which consists of human waste, soaps, detergents, and other household chemicals. In addition, industrial wastewater is generated from manufacturing processes, industrial activities, and commercial establishments, containing pollutants specific to the respective industries.

The disposal of untreated or inadequately treated wastewater can have significant environmental and public health consequences. It can contaminate water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and oceans, leading to water pollution and degradation of aquatic ecosystems. Wastewater can also pose risks to human health, as it may contain harmful bacteria, viruses, chemicals, and other pathogens.

To mitigate these issues, wastewater treatment processes are employed to remove pollutants and contaminants before the water is discharged back into the environment or reused for various purposes such as irrigation or industrial processes. Wastewater treatment facilities utilize physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove solids, organic matter, nutrients, and harmful substances, ensuring the water meets regulatory standards and is safe for the environment and public health.

Instead of making authentic choices, people in bad faith make choices based on what they think others want or expect from them. As a result, they lead unfulfilled lives and never achieve their full potential. In contrast, living in good faith means accepting the anxiety and uncertainty that comes with being free and taking responsibility for one's life.

which of the following was responsible for reshaping society from one in which the consumption of goods primarily met needs to one in which it met wants and desires?

Answers

The Industrial Revolution was responsible for reshaping society from one where consumption primarily met needs to one where it met wants and desires.

Through advancements in technology and production, the Industrial Revolution led to increased availability and affordability of goods, stimulating consumer demand beyond basic necessities. This shift was facilitated by mass production, improved transportation, and the emergence of advertising, which created a culture of consumerism and a desire for non-essential goods and services.

The Industrial Revolution, which began in the 18th century, brought about significant changes in society and the economy. Prior to this period, consumption was mainly focused on meeting basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. However, the Industrial Revolution transformed the production process by introducing new technologies and machinery, leading to mass production and increased efficiency.

With the advent of factories and the mechanization of manufacturing, the cost of producing goods decreased, making them more accessible and affordable to a larger portion of the population. This surplus of goods went beyond fulfilling basic needs, creating a newfound abundance of products. As a result, people started to desire and consume items beyond their immediate necessities.

Improved transportation systems, such as the expansion of railways and steamships, facilitated the distribution of goods on a larger scale. This allowed for a wider variety of products to be available in different regions, further expanding consumer choices.

Another critical factor that contributed to the shift from needs-based consumption to wants and desires was the rise of advertising. With the growth of urban populations and the development of mass media, companies began to employ marketing strategies to promote their products. Advertising campaigns appealed to people's aspirations, emotions, and desires, creating a culture of consumerism and fostering the notion that consumption could satisfy not only needs but also wants and aspirations.

Overall, the Industrial Revolution played a crucial role in reshaping society's consumption patterns. It brought about a surplus of goods, improved accessibility, and affordability, while advertising and marketing strategies further fueled the desire for non-essential items. This transition marked a shift from a society primarily focused on meeting basic needs to one where consumption met wants and desires.

There are many types of business transactions, including sales, partnerships, rent, mortgage, and more. According to Shariah Law, Muamalat transactions must be carried out in accordance with the principles of Islam.

Jaiz: Jaiz is a concept that means "permissible" under the Islamic Law. In Shariah Law, all actions are allowed unless they are expressly prohibited. In other words, Jaiz actions are those actions that are not prohibited by the Quran, Sunnah, or Ijma. For example, eating chicken is Jaiz, because there is no prohibition on eating chicken in the Quran, Sunnah, or Ijma.

The Shariah Law governing Muamalat starts with Jaiz or allowable unless proven otherwise by the Holy Quran or Sunnah or Ijma. This means that every action related to commercial and business transactions is allowed unless there is evidence to show that it is prohibited. The Holy Quran and Sunnah provide guidance on what is allowed and what is prohibited in business transactions, and Islamic scholars use Ijma to arrive at a consensus on matters that are not clear from the Quran or Sunnah.

In conclusion, Shariah Law governing Muamalat starts with Jaiz or permissible unless proven otherwise by the Holy Quran or Sunnah or Ijma, which means that all commercial and business transactions are allowed unless there is evidence to show that they are prohibited.

There is a long-term construction on University road as a result 10 min delay has been added to all the bus schedules. The new data shows that the amount of time, that a person must wait for a bus is now uniformly distributed between zero and 20 minutes, inclusive. a. What is the probability that a person waits fewer than 16.5 minutes based on the new schedule? b. On an average, how long must a person wait? (Find mean µ and std. deviation σ)

Answers

a. To calculate the probability that a person waits fewer than 16.5 minutes, we need to find the area under the uniform distribution curve between zero and 16.5 minutes. This can be calculated as follows: Probability[tex]= (16.5 - 0) / (20 - 0) = 0.825[/tex]Therefore, the probability that a person waits fewer than 16.5 minutes based on the new schedule is 0.825 or 82.5%.

b. The average wait time can be calculated by finding the midpoint of the uniform distribution, which is the average of the minimum and maximum values. In this case, the minimum value is zero and the maximum value is 20, so the average wait time is:

Average wait time [tex]= (0 + 20) / 2 = 10[/tex] minutes Therefore, on average, a person must wait for 10 minutes based on the new schedule.

-Bear hug with a "go public" clause
-Toehold
-Casual pass
-Proxy fight
-Bear hug with a "go public" clause and/or a proxy fight

Answers

If a bidder does not wish to initially commit substantial capital to a hostile approach, they may prefer employing option E. a bear hug with a "go public" clause and/or a proxy fight.

A bear hug with a "go public" clause can be an effective strategy for a bidder looking to avoid upfront capital commitment. In this approach, the bidder makes a public offer to acquire the target company at a premium price, accompanied by a proposal to take the target public if the offer is rejected. By doing so, the bidder puts pressure on the target's management and board to consider the offer seriously, as rejection could result in the bidder disclosing sensitive information during the IPO process, potentially damaging the target's reputation.

Alternatively, a proxy fight can be pursued, which involves the bidder soliciting shareholders' votes to replace the target company's board with individuals more amenable to the bid. This strategy allows the bidder to exert influence and potentially gain control of the target company without making an immediate substantial financial commitment.

By employing a bear hug with a "go public" clause or a proxy fight, the bidder can pursue a hostile approach while minimizing the initial capital required. These strategies leverage the power of public pressure and shareholder influence to increase the likelihood of a successful takeover, even without significant upfront investment.

Research on game reasoning (also called bracketed morality) has shown that people who play violent video games are less sensitive to real-life violence. The concept of bracketed morality, as proposed by James Paul Gee, refers to the idea that people can enjoy playing games that allow them to engage in actions that they would not find acceptable in real life.

For example, someone who plays a violent game may enjoy killing people in the game, but they would never actually kill someone in real life. In other words, they are able to bracket their moral beliefs when they are playing the game .Research has shown that playing violent video games can have a desensitizing effect on people. When people play violent games, they become more accustomed to violence, and they are less likely to react negatively to real-life violence. This effect is especially pronounced in people who play violent video games regularly. Studies have also shown that people who play violent games are more likely to be aggressive in real life than people who do not play violent games. However, the relationship between playing violent video games and real-life violence is complex, and there is still much debate about the nature of this relationship.

Is the US a participant in the global currency wars? What about Japan? China? Who benefits from a strong U.S. dollar, and who is hurt by it? Does the U.S. government care if the dollar appreciates or depreciates? Why? How did the Quantitative Easing program of the Federal Reserve Board affect the dollar's value? Do you agree with this program, which is still going on under a different name? How does a weak yuan help and hurt the Chinese economy?

Answers

Yes, the US is a participant in the global currency wars. Japan and China are also participants in the global currency wars.

Countries that import more than they export benefit from a strong U.S. dollar because it makes imported goods cheaper for them. Those who export more than they import are harmed by a strong dollar because it makes their goods more expensive in foreign markets. The US government does care if the dollar appreciates or depreciates because it has an impact on both the domestic economy and international trade. If the dollar appreciates, it can lead to decreased exports and decreased competitiveness for American companies. If the dollar depreciates, it can lead to inflation and higher import costs for American consumers.

The Quantitative Easing (QE) program of the Federal Reserve Board affected the dollar's value by increasing the money supply and lowering interest rates. This caused investors to move their money into higher-yielding currencies, which caused the dollar to depreciate. This program was controversial, with some arguing that it could lead to inflation or asset bubbles.

However, it was also seen as a necessary response to the 2008 financial crisis. A weak yuan helps the Chinese economy by making their exports cheaper and more competitive in foreign markets. However, it hurts the Chinese economy by making imported goods more expensive, which can lead to inflation.

Additionally, a weak yuan can cause capital flight as investors move their money out of China in search of better returns elsewhere.
